How to support town centres to meet today’s needs

A new future for our high streets is urgently needed in response to legacy issues around vacant spaces and the impacts of COVID-19, and as a response to the cost of living and climate crisis. 

Understanding the needs of local communities, giving them greater power and ownership, and enabling diversification of our high streets is essential to their survival.

  1. Government to help establish a High Street Buyout Fund to enable rapid purchase of important high street buildings.

  2. Government to create a powerful Community Right to Buy that will give communities priority rights over purchases

  3. Expansion of Community Improvement Districts
